Join Judah Birkeland and Marisa Recchia at Recchia Studios in the heart of the Catskill Mountains on Saturday October 18th for a jam packed day full of loading, firing, and reduction cooling the latest version of the Compact Wood Kiln.
This is a hands on wood fire workshop where attendees will have the opportunity to participate in every part of the firing process. Beginning with wadding pots and loading the kiln, then on to firing and stoking, and finally reduction cooling.
Each participant will be allotted one cubic foot of stacking space (roughly 10-15 small/medium sized pieces). Pots will need to be bisque fired, glazed, and/or slipped ahead of time, and ready to load upon arrival.
Registration: opens 08/10 at 1pm ($350)
Food: lunch and dinner will be provided on firing day. Light snacks and refreshments will be available unloading day.
Accommodations: North-South Lake Campground is 10 miles from the studio and would make a great option for those wishing to camp. Alternatively there are many hotels and Airbnb’s available in the area.
Recreation: there will be one day off between the firing and the unloading. Take this opportunity to explore the Catskills and enjoy the scenic vistas and beautiful fall colors they offer in mid October. A list of suggested recreational activities and other art related day trip ideas can be provided upon request.
