2026 Wood Fire Workshop with Lisa & Judah

Lisa and Judah are teaming up again for  another jam packed two and a half days of fast fire fun. Join them this spring at Linwood Pottery in the days following the St. Croix Pottery Tour. This workshop will consist of seven firings in two days! There will also be a virtual meeting one month prior to discuss the firing methods that will be employed and the type of work participants should bring. Registration opens January 11th at 1pm CST.

Day 1: Monday, May 11 8am-8pm

  • Load and fire the Compact Wood Kiln to cone 10. Reduction cool into the night.

  • Load and fire the Linwood Pottery Rocket Kiln to cone 10 with soda. Reduction cool into the night.

  • Load and fire Lisa’s portable Rocket Kiln to cone 6 with soda.

  • Load and fire Crusader electric kiln to cone 6 using wood for reduction atmosphere

Day 2: Tuesday, May 12 8am-8pm

  • Unload both rocket kilns and the electric reduction kiln

  • Load and fire the Linwood Pottery Rocket Kiln to cone 10 with soda

  • Lisa gives “in-glaze” luster tutorial. Apply 04 glaze with luster salts added to bisque sippers and small bowls. Fire up to 04 and at 018 start reduction to bring out lusters

  • Explore how to achieve Gohonde spotting effects, carbon trap shinos, and more. Load and fire the electric reduction kiln to cone 9/10

Day 3: Wednesday, May 13th 9am-3pm

  • Lisa gives Rocket Kiln presentation

  • Judah gives Compact Wood Kiln presentation 

  • Unload Compact Wood Kiln, Linwood Pottery Rocket Kiln, Portable Rocket Kiln, and electric reduction kiln

Participants can bring around 15-20 small to medium sized pieces to be fired. Having both cone 10 and cone 6 clay bodies and glazes is ideal, and please keep these bodies of work separate to facilitate efficient loading. All work should be bisque fired upon arrival. Bringing additional test tiles is strongly encouraged. More details and suggestions about the work you should bring will be provided at the virtual meeting one month prior to the workshop.
